Kajol Breaks Silence on Her ‘Haunted’ Ramoji Film City Remark Amid Backlash

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Kajol, known for her candid interviews and outspoken nature, recently found herself at the centre of controversy after making a comment about Hyderabad’s iconic Ramoji Film City. The actress referred to the location as “one of the most haunted places in the world” during a promotional interview for her upcoming film Maa, which quickly sparked criticism from netizens and fans alike.

Kajol’s comment came when she was asked whether she had ever sensed negative energy in real life. The actress admitted she had indeed experienced such feelings multiple times throughout her career. “I’ve shot at places where I just couldn’t sleep all night. I felt it would be better if I simply left,” she said, adding that she found certain environments unsettling. She then cited Ramoji Film City as an example of a place that is “considered one of the most haunted places in the world.” However, she clarified that she personally had never seen or experienced anything paranormal there.

In a detailed post, she expressed regret over the misunderstanding her earlier remark may have caused and praised Ramoji Film City for its professionalism and hospitality.

I have filmed multiple projects at Ramoji Film City and stayed there many times over the years. I have always found it to be a very professional environment for filmmaking and I have seen so many tourists enjoying themselves.

Kajol further emphasized that her experience at the studio complex has always been positive, both as an actress and as a visitor.

Spanning over 1,600 acres, it has hosted the production of countless films, TV serials, and advertisements. Apart from being a major shooting hub, it is also a prominent tourist destination that draws thousands of visitors each year for its themed attractions, guided studio tours, and family-friendly entertainment.

The criticism directed at Kajol included accusations of promoting baseless superstitions and hurting the sentiments of Hyderabadis and fans of the film city. Many online users highlighted the economic and cultural significance of Ramoji Film City and argued that such a remark from a public figure could damage its reputation.

Despite the backlash, many fans have appreciated Kajol’s willingness to clear the air and acknowledged her respectful clarification. Her statement also underscores the importance of responsible communication, especially when public figures discuss culturally significant places.

On the professional front, Kajol is gearing up for the release of Maa, a mythological drama directed by Vishal Furia. The film is produced by her husband Ajay Devgn, along with Jyoti Subbarayan and Kumar Mangat Pathak. Set to hit theatres on June 27, Maa promises to showcase a powerful story steeped in mythology and emotion.

With its dramatic themes and stellar performances, Maa is expected to be a major cinematic event this year.

As the debate surrounding Kajol’s remarks subsides, the actress hopes her clarification will put the matter to rest and redirect attention back to her work and upcoming film.
